Your guide to glowing summer-ready skin


The balmy summer months are a wonderful time of year filled with long lazy beach days, time spent outdoors, and much needed holidays spent with family and friends here in Australia and abroad. Summer also heralds a change in what we wear and how we look after our skin. The warm sweaters and heavy moisturisers of winter and spring are replaced with light easy-breezy wardrobe pieces and a summer-ready skincare regimen.

Wardrobe aside, for glowy, healthy summer skin there are a few skincare essentials to include in your top-to-toe summer skincare regimen.

Read on as we provide a guide to prepping your skin for summer and looking after it during the hottest months.

Summer skincare basics

Summer and humidity go together like sand and surf, they’re a package deal. And as we have all experienced during a hot summer day, humidity means we sweat more and our skin can look and feel extra oily from the increase in sebum production (that’s the oily substance that can clog pores and lead to breakouts).

To help keep humidity-related skin issues at bay in summer, switch to beauty products with lightweight, non-greasy textures. For instance, sub out your creamy cleanser for a gentle gel or mild foaming version that is tough on sweat, dirt and excess oil but won’t strip the skin and lead to dehydration.

Humidity can also cause more frequent body breakouts. Similar to changing your face cleanser, opt for a lighter gel body wash or soap formulated with antioxidants (which help keep skin healthy) that will efficiently cleanse the skin without stripping it. The extra summer humidity can make the skin feel oilier and in less need of hydration, but salt water, air conditioning, chlorine, sand, and sun exposure can really strip the skin of moisture and dry it out. Amp up hydration in summer but opt for a lightweight lotion or gel moisturiser along with a hydrating antioxidant-rich serum that will work effectively with the increased humidity.
