How to take care of your skin during the party season

·

When the festive season is in full swing taking care of your skin is often the lowest priority on the to-do list. Late nights, party food, too many festive drinks, not enough water, or forgetting to remove your make-up before bed, can take a very visible toll on your skin. Wrinkles, breakouts, dull tired skin are just a few of the side effects that may appear like an unwanted party favour during the silly season.

But, you can avoid a party season skin “hangover” by taking a few steps to prep, prime and look after your skin so it glows throughout the holidays and into the new year.

Cleanse

One of the most important steps for keeping skin in tip top shape during the busiest time of the year is to properly cleanse and always remove your make-up before bed, no matter how tired you are. Sleeping in your make-up may clog the pores which can lead to sebum and bacteria building up and an associated breakout.

Cleanse thoroughly morning and night with a gentle, effective cleanser that also helps the skin retain moisture.

Try: Peggy Sue Herbal Cleanser. This cleansing milk is packed with skin-loving native extracts including quandong and kangaroo paw as well as soothing aloe vera and camellia oil. If your skin is feeling particularly out of balance or extra prone to breakouts try Mukti Balancing Cleansing Gel.

Prep and prime for party-ready skin

Heading out for a festive soirée? After cleansing the skin, prep with a primer that will protect and hydrate your skin during the evening’s festivities and assist with smooth make-up application.

Try: Grown Alchemist Primer: Prebiotic Peptide, Anti-Pollution Shield Complex and Ganoderma Extract

Brighten

Late nights and lack of sleep can leave skin feeling and looking dull. Treat your skin to a glow-giving boost of antioxidants via a product containing vitamin C. Vitamin C is packed with antioxidants and is a powerhouse skincare ingredient that brightens and evens dull skin tone. Add a vitamin C-rich product to your party season skincare line-up to bring the merry and bright back to your skin.

Moisturise

Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate some more. Skin needs extra hydration during busy times and to combat the drying and dehydrating effects of alcohol as well as excess sugar consumption from delicious but not nutritious festive treats. Skincare with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid as well as antioxidants to renew and protect the skin are a must for the party season. Soothing, calming ingredients like aloe vera, cucumber and chamomile will also assist in keeping skin soft, nourished and supple during the holidays.

Cannabella Complex COQ10 Serum

Glow

Support your skin from the inside out with an ingestible collagen-based beauty supplement. Glowing, plump skin during the party season is on everyone’s wish list and an inner beauty boost may be the extra assistance needed in the party mix to make that wish come true.

Try: Imbibe Miracle Collagen

At-home facial

A jam-packed party season leaves no time for hour-long facials. However, your skin will visibly show the benefits of a quick weekly at-home mask and serum infusion.

For a speedy yet effective 10-minute at-home facial, apply a skincare mask that targets your skin’s needs before you step into the shower to shampoo and condition your hair. Leave the mask on until you have thoroughly rinsed all the conditioner out, then wash it off and follow with serum. Infuse the serum by spending a few minutes gently working the product into the skin with a facial roller.

Relax and reset

Trying to carve out time during the holiday season for self-care for the body and soul is a tough ask. But, you and your skin will feel and looked refreshed and restored if you do. Try to set aside half-an-hour or so once a week for a soothing soak in the tub with a calming, restorative bathing beauty like Peggy Sue Hydration Bath Sessions. Or, before bed spend a minute or two applying a calming body oil like Arithmos De-Stress Sandalwood Superfine Body Oil.
