9 female founded A-beauty brands to know

·
From micro-batch body oil to clean skincare and hair care, these female founded brands have all your beauty bases covered.
Inspiring, influential and pioneering—female founders are disrupting the beauty space both in Australia and around the globe. In honour of International Women’s Day 2022, we are sharing nine of the most innovative female founded A-beauty brands on offer. All are proudly made in Australia and stocked at The Day Ahead, the home of A-beauty.

Arithmos: Former accountant-turned-cosmetic chemist Michelle Wang founded plant-based body care brand Arithmos after discovering the skincare benefits of botanical oils while researching options to help her daughter’s skin condition. The brand’s micro-batch organic body oils are hand blended in Melbourne with fresh, natural botanicals and are designed to soothe the skin and calm the mind.

As for which Arithmos beauty oil to try? Michelle told The Day Ahead to match your body oil to your mood: “…in Uplift, the main ingredients are jasmine and neroli, which give you that ‘perk-me-up’ feeling that is great in the morning. Whereas the Soothe and De-stress blends are best used at the end of the day after a shower to unwind…” Shop the Arithmos range here.

Gracious Minds: An innovative natural Australian skincare brand for sensitive skin, Gracious Minds was founded in 2019 in Melbourne by Kat Narelle. Formulated with high-quality, sustainably sourced natural extracts, the products work to repair the skin, calm inflammation and are gentle enough for even the most sensitive of skin. This conscious beauty brand has a focus on sustainability, is vegan, cruelty-free, and proudly made in Australia.

Imbibe: Beauty entrepreneur Felicity Evans’ own health issues ignited the idea for her ingestible beauty company, Imbibe. After her search for clean, effective products to help with her autoimmune condition came up short, she created her own. Since starting her brand from her kitchen table in Byron Bay, Felicity has grown Imbibe into a leading inner A-beauty powerhouse. We asked Felicity what the most rewarding part of being a business owner is, and she replied that it’s “having such a supportive community of women we serve”, as well as “seeing [the] range literally change people’s lives.”

Formulated with natural and clean ingredients, Imbibe’s range covers both ingestible beauty supplements and topical beauty. The hero of the range is Imbibe’s Miracle Collagen, with its many fans swearing by it for glowing skin and healthy hair and nails. Shop the Imbibe range here.

Lovebyt: “My vision for Lovebyt was to create a premium oral beauty range. I wanted it to be made in Australia and be free of nasty chemicals,” Lovebyt founder Tash Scutts told The Day Ahead of the idea behind her locally-made, vegan oral brand Lovebyt. Tash left her career in fashion (at iconic Aussie label Bassike) to found Lovebyt and has elevated the oral beauty space with her fresh, non-traditional take on toothpaste. Lovebyt offers three botanical toothpaste flavours—Peppermint, Charcoal and Mint, and Cinnamon and Clove—which call on natural plaque, gingivitis and cavity-fighting ingredients like charcoal, tea tree oil, peppermint, eucalyptus, cinnamon and more, to clean teeth, naturally. Shop the Lovebyt range here.

Ms Brown: Plant-based clean body care brand Ms Brown is the brainchild of former Vogue Living editor, Alexandra Brown. Simple, considered and effective, Ms Brown’s body and hand care products are made in Sydney from natural, high-quality, plant-based certified organic ingredients. Nourishing, hydrating and soothing, the hand and body products feature bespoke botanical and citrus scents (think: bergamot, geranium and neroli) as well as an unscented option for those sensitive to fragrance.

For clean, hydrated hands try Ms Brown’s Unscented Hand Wash and Bergamot Hand Cream. Shop the Ms Brown range here.

Mukti Organics: A pioneer in the clean beauty space, Mukti founded her eponymous A-beauty brand back in 2000, long before the clean beauty movement became mainstream. The products are infused with native Australian extracts and the highest quality plant-based ingredients. Mukti’s range includes cleansers, serums, moisturisers, and targeted treatment products catering to all skin types and concerns.

If your goal is luminous, hydrated skin, try Mukti’s Hyaluronic Marine Serum. Shop the Mukti Organics range here.

O&M: High-performance hair care used to mean products formulated with harsh chemicals. It was the only way to tame tresses. Until Jose Bryce Smith came along. Jose’s former partner, Allen, a hairdresser, suffered from contact dermatitis and this sparked the idea for effective hair care without harsh chemicals. O&M (Original & Mineral) was born, an Australian-made and owned hair care brand of luxury, efficacious products powered by active Australian native extracts and free from harsh chemicals. A favourite backstage at fashion week in Australia and around the world, O&M’s range features shampoo, conditioner, treatment and styling products.

Looking for a natural way to tame your tresses? Try O&M Style Guru. Shop the O&M range here.

Peggy Sue: Shanah and Alysha, two Aussie mums based on the South Coast of New South Wales, founded ethical self-care brand Peggy Sue with the aim of nurturing the slow beauty movement and bringing self-care rituals into everyday living. Made in Australia and certified organic, Peggy Sue offers a beautiful range of skincare, bath and body care that nourish the skin and the soul. The brand has a strong sustainability focus with refill options and reusable packaging.

For a truly beautiful self-care ritual, add Peggy Sue’s Superfood Bath Shots to your bath and a few drops of Nora Beauty Oil for extra hydration and relaxation. Shop the Peggy Sue range here.

Saya: “We have always been Australian made, using sustainably sourced and high-quality ingredients within our formulations. We’re proudly cruelty-free and vegan,” Saya’s founder Saya McDermott told The Day Ahead of her botanical skincare brand based in Noosa. Developed to address her own problematic skin, Saya’s eponymous organic beauty range includes uncomplicated body care, hand care, skincare and hair care that draws on plant-based aromatherapy to hydrate, nourish and infuse calm into the beauty routine.
